Well I got my first speeding ticket on the bike. I am pretty pissed off about it - you will soon find out why. I was cruising along a back road with a buddy of mine, him on his F4, me on my gixxer, and he was in front of me. We were going down this really long straight stretch in the pooring rain in a 60 zone. We were both cruising along at about 67~ when this black intrepid came up behind me. I didn't think it was a ghost car, because I was checking it out in the mirrors, and it didn't look at all like it. I couldn't see any hidden lights by the rear view mirror or anything. We kept cruising along, and he kept getting closer to me. I had quite a bit of space between me and my buddy on the F4, so I gave it a quick shot of gas to give some space between us, to kinda let him know he is following too close. Of course as soon as I do this, the cop rips up right behind me and puts on his lights. I couldn't believe it, because I only hit 83 for a split second, then backed off. He said I was doing 85, and gave me a ticket for $138. The cheap bastard was egging me on to speed, and it worked. I couldn't believe he actually gave me a ticket for this. From what I have read, I just accepted the ticket like a man, and said as little as possible, giving no excuse. Perhaps this way he won't remember it if I dispute and may not show up. I am thinking of disuputing it because of the whole situation, and I was worried about him following too close since it was raining. Yea I could have taken other alternatives like letting him by, but it was a pretty narrow road with a low shoulder. I am not sure whether or not I should disupute it, and hope he doesn't show or that I can argue the ticket, or if I should just take the consequence like a man and pay the fine. I just think it was pretty cheap for him to do such a thing.
Another question, do you have to get a lawyer when disputing?
