    Sun June 20/04 Van-Pemberton-Lillooett - Lytton-SpencesBridge-Merritt-Princeton-Hope

    Date: Sunday, June 20, 2004
    Time: 6:30 a.m.
    Meet: Church
    Depart: 6:45 a.m. sharp
Route: Semi-combined Duffey / Merritt Loops
    Pace: Legal

    ---------------

All on two wheels welcome, but recommended that you have already ridden at least one of the Duffey or Merritt loops before. This is a long ride, so get a good night's sleep, you'll need all your energy. I'm not exactly sure but we'll be out there for 12 - 15 hours including stops, and probably 1000 km or more distance. There are a number of "shortcuts" back including at Lytton (via Fraser Canyon) and Merrit (via the Coke) if you don't want to ride the whole thing.

Be gassed by the time you get to church, because the first stop is Pemberton (edit). Objective is to beat the weekend traffic from Vancouver to Pemberton. The general plan is to gas and breaky in Pemberton (edit). Lunch to be determined (edit).

    (edit)

    good looking route Steve..

I don't think gas will be a problem in Whistler, but you may want to consider gassing in Whistler and then going the extra 20 minutes to Pemberton and having breaky at the Pony Express. Just a thought .. I always find Whistler a pain to park in..

I should be able to be there

watch for the speed trap just as u enter pemberton
do the limit as soon as u see the sign, there is a little fat tiny dicked cop on the beat up there now
he hides just on a side road on the left at the bend

SilverD has right idea... just boot over to Pony Express from breaky. Should be able to get there before 9am. Hour or so break then Lytton by 11ish. Someone else have good suggestion for lunch places ???

PS... that Sunday is also Father's Day too...

There's a "Home Restaurant" in Merritt. The food is decent at the ones I've eaten at in Maple Ridge and Hope.

Good thing I looked at the date--I was getting ready to head out tomorrow.

There's some road heaves/bumpyness right at the 60 K sign, also a real good reason to be within the legal limit there, at least it was there a few months ago.

Steve: I'm totally up for this. What kind of sacrifice do you think we'll need to perform to have the weather gods be with us on a weekend?!?

Anyways, I think gassing & stopping in Pemberton sounds like a good idea as well. If you like, I can work out the exact distances so we can plan gas stops according to those (and give people directions etc to print out via mappoint). Let me know.

My bike needs gas every 150km or so, would that hold you guys up?

I'm in for this ride. I've been wanting to try this loop for a while now..

Looking at a map just now, it seems that the distance betweem Van-Lytton the Whistler way is about the same as Van-Lytton the Hope way. I'm definetly happier to take the 99 over the No. 1. The number 1 is.. yaaawn.. booring.

Andrew, you'll have a blast. I did the loop for the first time a couple weeks back with Steve. 600km added to my new bike. Needless to say, my bike was broken in by the end of the ride. But my ass was sure damn sore.

Steve, I've pencilled it in but I'll have to see if I can get away. Since it's Father's day does that mean I get to do whatever I want, or does that mean I gotta act like a father and spend time with my kid.

Oh, I forgot about the Father's Day thing. Ray, Stan kiss your wives and kids, and tell them you love them, and that it's all my fault. Hope you can both make it.

OK, gas in Whistler then breaky in Pemberton. Thanks for the input Don, Ray. Morgan, I think the distance from the church to Whistler is less than 150 km's so you should be OK, If not, Bjorn has volunteered to push your bike which won't really slow him down any more than usual anyway.

Jeroen, I'm giving you a pass on your exams now so you can come, and Jassy similarly you now have the day off work.

Nancy, you know I'm not ... too crazy.

    Anything else?
