So, I’m just on the way home after a great scoot with a friend, as I sit at a stoplight, a V-Rod turns in front of me. My light turns green and I zip off in search of a closer look. I see him take the ramp onto the freeway and I juice it up some more and turn on the freeway too. I have a completely clear lane and pace him comfortably (about 140 kmh) and enjoy the “V-Rod-Knob Show”! This dude, resplendent in skullcap and leather vest, cuts across two lanes pissing off at least one car in the process then sucks up and tailgates two “bros” riding Harleys side by side in the fast lane. Then he guns it, splitting the two “bros” who set off in wild pursuit, back onto the lane I am occupying, cutting real close to a couple more cars! My lane is the off ramp to my house and joy of joys, a light is turning red (meanwhile the pissed-off “bros” give up in disgust and steer back onto the freeway). Gee-whiz, those brakes don’t work too well, he can’t get it stopped until he is in the middle of the cross-traffic lane!! He paddles hurriedly backwards, looking over his left shoulder, I give my bike a shot of throttle and He almost jumps off his bike, he didn’t know I was there in the right lane. Well, you know what’s next, light turns green and off we go! I keep off his right side, back about two bike lengths and comfortably keep the pace. I want to scope out the sound and see how it looks under full acceleration. This guy was really giving it, he was obviously pissed off and wanted to stomp my “dirt-bike” (tee hee). With a vans bumper looming and the lanes merging, He had a quick peek to see if I was still there (Yep!) he then executed the scariest manoeuvre yet. I guess he couldn’t tolerate sharing a lane with me so he made a wild, w i d e pass on the double solid and came very close to decorating a Dodge truck’s bumper! I guess there was something wrong with the trucks anti-lock brakes, because there was a fair amount of smoke coming off the trucks tires.
So what did I learn?
V-Rods are pretty damn quick off the line, almost as fast as a FS650!
V-Rods are pretty damn loud when fitted with headers, almost as loud as a FS 650 with the competition baffle fitted.
V-Rods are pretty damn expensive, twice what my Husaberg costs.
V-Rods are pretty damn common on the streets of Victoria………amazing.
V-Rods have crappy brakes and mediocre handling. (I didn’t witness one tight lane change)
The guy driving it was an idiot, he pissed off at least 6 cagers and two fellow bikers. He freaked those other Harley guys out!
There is going to be a few wadded V-Rods coming on the market soon.
