anyone else find that...
anyone else find that stuff on their bike was grossly over torqued? I just did my first oil change on my bike and I had to use a 3/8" ratched and a 1.5 foot long pipe to break it loose. My oil filter caved under the pressure of my filter wrench before it broke loose. I'm kinda afraid to think of what the rest of the bike is at right now. I'm thinkin of breakin every bolt loose and retourqing everything to spec.
I just broke loose a bunch of bolts on my bike. Ones that probably had never been touched in 14 or so years from the factory. Steel bolts into aluminum will start to weld themselves in, it's not a bad idea to break 'em and retorque. An oil filter though, that's surely been taken off and on a few times. Sounds like someone was a little over eager to crank it down.
PS, your bike is so new I wouldn't worry about it much, unless it had some major work done at some point.
Better to tight than too loose, Imagine if the drain plug was too loose. I m an auto mechanic, and I notice the same thing on cars. From the factory the oil drain is torqued to 30-35 foot lbs of torque, the recommended amount of torque is 14-20 Lbs on most cars.
I'm a backyard mechanic / tryin to find an apprenticeship. I also worked in a shop for the last few years. I guess people are so paranoid about oil leaks they reef everything on so damn tight. This is the first time any of these parts have been taken off the bike. I just hit 1200km and I'm doin the first service. I just didn't expect them to be so tight from the dealer/manufacturer.
