Time to start one of my favorite threads again: the reminder of the Vancouver Pride Parade This always provokes "interesting" discussion.
Mostly copied from my initial post last year:
Vancouver Pride Parade
Sunday, August 1, 2004
starts 12 noon
Denman Street to Sunset Beach
Yes, this is the "gay parade" that takes place in Vancouver's West End.
If you are a close-minded hick, please don't show up. If you are tolerant and supportive of humanity's many differences, come on out for a good time!
Honestly, this is one of the best parades I've ever been to. The main reason (in my mind) is that everyone in the parade WANTS to be there and is there to HAVE FUN and CELEBRATE LIFE.
Bring the kids! They will love it, and you can teach them tolerance and acceptance of people whom much of N. American culture negatively views as "different".
Bonus motorcycle content: the parade is usually led by a bunch of motorcyclists pulling the occasionall wheelie.
Details about the parade and the many other Pride Week events are on the Vancouver Pride Society homepage (which I personally find a bit confusing to navigate ). So far I have only found this little blurb:<!-- / message -->The 26th Annual Pride Parade will be marching its way through the streets of the West End. Attendance at the 2003 Parade was estimated at 150,000 people so get down early to secure a good spot to watch!!
