So, I wandered into a windsurfing shop in Jericho to check out their selection of (FourSkims) skimboards, but end up getting an education on Kiteboarding, and then some...
Being a "gearhead", it was natural for me to inquire about sports activities with lots of (expensive) gear. Even just checking out the equipment seems to give me a bit of a rush.
The guy at the store, Brady, told me that they held training sessions with kites set up for dry-land training, at Vanier Park. He said they were free fun, free use of their kites. (By "kites", I mean mini parasails used to generate "pull" from flying them through the "wind window" downwind from the operator.) I signed up for a session and checked it out.
What a rush to be able to feel that power and getting dragged across the lawn as the kite travels through the "power zone". It's a bit tricky at first, but once you get that "feel" of it, it gets super easy and the amount of control is amazing. The next progression is strapping on the board, not unlike a wakeboard, and going for a rip on the water.
ASIDE: Met a girl. Super hot! Got the digits! I think she wants to go scuba diving and skiing with me.
