I have been pondering this feeling for a very long time now. I have finally removed my insurance from my bike. There are several reasons for this. My main concern is that I do not want to die riding on the street. With the unfortunate incident with Corey (RIP), it really put things into perspective. No matter how safe you are, there's always some goof that wont see you. There is not one day of riding on the street that I dont come home feeling safe.
I blame track days. After completing several successful trackdays, I have lost the urge to ride on the street. It's just not as appealing. Worrying about crashing on the street, cars, tickets etc really takes the fun out of riding. The track is where I can really wind it up, and go hard without worrying about these things. Crashes at twice the speed the track yeild way less damage on the body. the ironic thing is that I got a speeding ticket in my car today.
So what does this mean? I will still ride on the street on the odd occasion with day insurance. I've had my bike insured for 3months now and have ridden about 4 times, and out of the 4, only 1 time was it ever fun. I'm restricting my riding to very casual rides, mostly coffee meets etc...especially at starbucks on robson
So dont count me out for rides, and see you at the track!
PS I'm now looking for a GSXR 600 or 750 that has been written off.
