attn: web designers and marketing ppl
i need your help.
web designers: Does anyone know how much it costs to get a nice webpage done? it'll be for a bar/resturant.
marketers: how much does it cost to put on a marketing campaign to market a bar in a predominantly tourist attraction resort destination like a harrison hot springs?
I'm currently working as a business analyst and what you can provide may lead to some contract work for this business project that I'm currently working on.
dude ive received quotes from $400 - $2000 for a prof. website including all the online marketing ie. search engine ranking, yada yadahhh...
as far as marketing campaigns, it'll have to depend on the media you wanna use for marketing. print marketing? face-to-face maketing? ads in magazines? geo-farming? so many ways to go man... costs for marketing can definitely vary and range. if its a big contract i say take the time to call some marketing/ad companies or even publishers and ask them to meet you and give you their sales pitch of their products, some names of companies their worked with before and results they have been able to give their previous clients.
good luck man. let me know if i can help buddy
Yip, Rob is correct. websites can be done for as little as 400 bucks. It will mostly depend on how much artwork, i.e. pictures or logos you already have in mind or evne prepared. The site itself is mostly generic code, as is the text which you have to provide. If you have pictures and logos ready to go or at least ready to scan then it would be a minor job.
Marketing is more tricky. WHo do you want to address with your campaign? Do you plan to use the internet, newsprint, face-to-face etc.? You can do this from $00 a month to no limits
I found that local webdesign students are inexpensive when it comes to building a site, but they might want to use the site for their class if you dont mind that then give it a try.
Kahuna, where would be the best place to look for webdesign students willing to do some freelance work? I mean, I'm sure I can head down to the Art Institute or CDIS and ask around, but what would be an easier way? Any experience in that? Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.

exactly what do you need? logos? are images ready? how many pages? if you want forms for people to contact you, that'll be more. if you want, send me details and i can give you an approx price. I would do it for you for but I'm super busy right now, but I can at least tell you what it should cost.
looks to be about 20 pages or so. figure about 20 hrs for design and mockup. around 20hrs to code all the pages. so 40hrs total. i would normally charge around $50US per hour. something simple like this, maybe less since no database work or java/asp/php coding. i'm sure you could find someone for $20cdn per hour though. the vancouver market is flooded with out of work designers and developers. just make sure you check their portfolios. if you want, i can review any potential designers for you to tell you if they know their stuff.
seriously though, don't cheap out on a website. you're probably spending tons on furntiure, plates, silverware, etc. you wouldn't buy a $50 ikea table for your restaurant, would you?
this is what $400 will get you:
If u have frontpage u can make it yourself pretty easily.
And MrPickWicks is the best named site i have seen in a while lol
Wow thats what $400 gets you? I'm undercharging people But then again I dont do any of that fancy java/flash/whatever shit. Just straight graphics and html. LOL
Anyone know of any where hiring graphic artists? I know the market is flooded so maybe I should move back to ND... LOL

You get what you pay for in websites.
You can put together a reasonably decent 4/5 page website for under $1000 I'd guess. If you want it to be fancier, the sky is basically the limit. It's also going to vary from web designer to web designer as to how much they will charge for their time, etc.
I'd suspect something worth while doing would be close to $2000 for a relatively basic site. You may also want to keep it update and have some sort of monthly maintence contract for it.
Feel free to contact me if you want more info.
I've got a friend who might be interested in doing some freelance work, hes got an impressive resume and he's pretty taleneted/creative..
Defintley be cheaper then the quotes here (which are defintley accurate), pm me if your interested

the biggest swallowers of a developers time can be sourcing photographs and graphics and then resizing and formatting them to fit the project. you can save a lot of time by having absolutely everything ready for the developer: photos, graphics, logos and a colour scheme and font choices.
thanks for the help guys. i'll factor about 2000 for the development of a website, now i gotta wait for the government to ok my business proposal before i can proceed
