so a ride today turned interesting, when we're on stretch of road approaching a slower moving car. I'm out front, coming up on the vehicle; there's an oncoming sports car, but the distance is good and so I make the pass. There's two squids behind me, one on an r1 and the other an r6, and next in line following them are my buddies on a 01gixxer750 and a TL1000R. From what I can gather from the situation, the r1 pulls out to follow my pass, misjudged his timing, slams on the brakes and ducks back in, cutting off the r6 rider (who attempt to follow the pass) which results in the r6 slamming into the r1's rear tire, which sent the r6 into a tankslapper and quickly resulted in a lowside at 110+kph. The r1 rider almost lost it as well, but then saved it by accelerating. The r6 rider is now sliding down the road following his bike. luckily he had frame sliders and had just recently bought himself a leather jacket and gloves. The gixxer & TL rider witness this all right infront of them, moving around him and clock him at 85 as he slides beside them! After about 200ft, he was immediately on his feet and began calmly walking towards his bike, which was still sliding nicely down the road.
It took me a while to realize they wern't behind me anymore. I stopped, and waited, then after about 1 minute turned around and headed back - the idea that someone had not made the pass and had a head on collision with the speeding sportscar was now my basic assumption. I was prepared to see something very bad around the way... luckily this was not the case today.
the r6 was hardly damaged - scuff marks all over the front, the dampner was tweaked, the peg missing, some harsh rash on the tail section, but all in all it was in fantastic shape considering it had just slidden about 350ft down the road. The slider was worn down to a nub, and the r6 riders' new jacket wasn't so new looking anymore....and I think he learned something about not following too close.
