My wife was waiting in a stationary line of traffic at an active railway crossing this morning (in her car).
She was looking through some paperwork when she felt a slight bump. An almost zero speed collision had occurred between our car and the car in front. The driver of the car in front leapt out and the usual inspection of vehicles and exchange of documents took place. The passenger in the other car got in and out three times to help communicate. There was no visible damage to the plastic bumper of our car, but the other driver claimed that we had caused some damage to the top of their bumper (old scratches and physically impossible). My wife originally thought it was her fault and she had perhaps let the car creep against the brake.
However, within a couple of hours the other driver had their car inspected and filed a claim for personal injury to their passenger (bear in mind that this coming together was at less than walking speed).
Having been informed by ICBC of this pending claim, my wife took our car to be inspected to show that there was no damage; therefore the injury claim was stretching the realms of possibility. The ICBC guy said that the injury claim had been filed very quickly and he was suspicious. He wanted to know if the claimant was of a certain nationality. When told that they were indeed, he said that this was entirely typical and they saw these fraudulent claims daily and not to worry (I suspect they in fact reversed into my wife).
Now I’m an immigrant, and I view my residence in Canada as a privilege. It really pisses me off that other nationalities routinely milk the system for all it’s worth. I’m pretty sure as this sort of thing is so widespread that most people reading this will know which group are collectively sticking it to the rest of us.
Get on with sorting out your own lives – integrate – and be responsible for the collective good of the community.
