Ok, on the news this morning there was a story about the proposed new student residences at UBC. These towers are tall enough that the top couple of stories will afford views of Wreck Beach below. Apparently the beach goers are protesting this because they think that students/pervs will be spying on them.
Now don't get me wrong, I know people that love to go to that beach and I think it's a lovely location. Thing is, I've been there about three times (many years ago). The first time I went I was all like, "woowho - naked chicks." Then when I got there it was more like, "eewwww - naked fat chicks." And mostly naked dudes everywhere. The subsequent visits were also less than inspiring.
What I'm getting at is, what exactly are they worried about? I think the novelty (nausea?) will wear off for the students after a few minutes. They can always hike down through the bushes if they're into spying. I'd much rather have a view of Kits beach or Spanish Banks.
At the same time, I really don't see why the university can't shave a few floors off the top of these buildings.
What do you think?
