Back in May, my stupid friend dropped my bike to its side. Eventually, when I pulled the money from him, I took it to Borderline because it was so well acknowledged on the site. My first impressions of Hakeem, the owner, was consistent to what people said about him. He was a cool guy who gave me what I "thought was" a good deal, so in exchange I gave him numerous two cases of beer. It was just a small token of my gratitude. I thought everything was going to be just fine, until I got my bike back couple weeks later due to exams at school.
When I got to the shop to pick up my bike, Hakeem had the key with him. My key is attatched to my 3rd watch and I noticed that the plastic covering, on the lcd screen that I purposely left on the remote to protect from scratches, was tampered with. Half of the plastic was hanging loose, but I didn't say anything since he turned the bike on for me. When he attemped to turn my bike on, it wouldn't start because the battery was dead. He was kind enough to lend me his battery to get me goin. I never touched the key at all, but I knew for sure somebody touched the lens. When I got home, I discovered that the lcd screen on the remote was cracked and I immeadiately suspected Borderline. I called Hakeem 2 days after and he said he'd take care of fixing it because it costs 75 bucks to replace the remote. I knew I needed to call him asap just to be safe. Ever since then, my alarm stopped working and I thought it was only because my remote was broken, which Hakeem promised he'd medi! ate. On the phone, I also told him that I would come back to pick up my 100 dollars when I return the battery which he so "kindly" lent me. Couple months pass since then, and I still haven't been able to deal with my broken alarm, because I had exams, a part-time job and Borderline is kinda inconvenient from where I live.
It wasn't until last week when I finally finished my exams and had time to deal with this broken alarm. I first brought it to BIieu, who installed the 3rd watch alarm for me and he told me that my alarm was fried and that the remote was busted. I took it to him because it was under warranty. However, he fails to acknowledge this and tells me that it costs 200 to replace and that this price is almost at cost. I quickly call Hakeem and tell him what Bieu said and he told me to come in to see him the Monday after.
I called him as usual before I went and saw him. There were times where he would tell me to come and pick up the bike, but nobody would answer the phone when I call before hand. On Monday when I got to the shop, only Hakkeem and his friend Vaughn was workin. When Hakeem saw me, I asked him about the money he owed me, but he said he won't be able to get it until some guy picks up his bike and pays him for the work. In my head, I was like what the hell, you don't have it again. I carried on by regurgitating what Bieu had said and all they could say was, "That is bullshit...How could installing some fairings and stator cover fry the alarm...I smell something fishy goin on here...I think that he is telling you this to sell you a new alarm..." I dunno who is at fault here. I am just an avereage customer who knows nothing about bikes and confides in experts to solve my problems in exchange for my hard earned money. All I know is, my alarm was working before and it didn't work r! ight when Hakeem handed back my bike to me, which came with it, a broken remote. Hakeem also suggested I should bring my alarm to somewhere else and get it checked out, becuase he said he doesn't trust Bieu. Then, I was thinking, instead of assuming responsibility you try to send me somewhere else which will potentially cost me even more money? I thouoght that was really unreasonable. When I offer that he pay for half of the replacement fee, which I thought was pretty reasonable, he denied me right away.
He asks, "Do you think I am screwin you?"
I replied, "Yeah, a little."
The argument continued and I got nothing but "I dunno what else to tell you." Finally I gave up, and asked for my 100 dollars back. He told me, "Say good-bye to your 100 dollars because you said that you think I am screwin ya." He told me that I do not get my 100 dollars back anymore because he is going to add extra work that he did for me onto the original reciept. That really shocked me from the inside out.
There were other times when I asked for this 100 dollar work deposit refunded to me, but he always gave me an excuse which I always bought because I trusted him. Now that I think back at it, he never had the intent of giving my money back, because he knew that I was going to come back to haunt him with the alarm. Intially, I gave him 180. On the receipt, it clearly says 70 bucks to install stator cover, turn signals, passenger peg, clutch and 100 dollars to repaint the scratched fairing, which I eventually disregarded. It is actually cheaper to buy a new cowl and since he started on the scratched fairing, he said he'd charge me 10 bucks for that which I agree. But I was stupid enough to let him safekeep my 100 dollars, thinking that he'd give it back to me when I went to pick up my bike.
Also, I think he would sometimes tell me not to come in during peak hours because he knew that I would argue over my alarm and it affect what other customers would think of him. When I told him that all I wanted was my 100 dollars back and I am never gonna come back, which I think is the least he could do, he told me he doesn't wanna see me at all.
I have had some really good customer service by mechanics and I have seen some bad ones as well, but never was there a time like this. I do not normally get angry, but I think anyone would under the circumstances Hakeem is putting me in. I was already hurt when my friend dropped my baby, and when I think I could trust Borderline, I end up with this? Now, I am down 300 dollars. Not only am I going to report this to the Better Buisness Bureau, but I am going proceed further with legal actions, since communication has failed between us. Borderline, you screwed up and not only are you not admitting it, you robbed me while I was down and kicked me in the nuts while you were at it. You had a chance to make good but u didn't.
