I was cruising up Nanaimo this evening when I started to see these incredibly intense flashes of light in my left mirror. It was very distracting, and I couldn't figure out what type of vehicle it was until I stopped at a light and a Yamaha (R1? R6?) pulled up behind with high beams on.
These headlights were BRUTAL. I had to change lanes to get away from them, I couldn't see anything on the left side of my bike and I was seeing spots in my left eye from these headlights in my mirror. I can't imagine coming towards them, I wouldn't have been able to see the road or anything on it.
I know some people use high beams all the time, but this is dangerous. That's why it's illegal. Headlights at night, drivers can see you. High beams at night, drivers can't see anything else. If you feel they make you more visible during the day, go nuts. But at night, you're just creating a hazard.
I know, do I want some cheese with that whine? "Piss off, I can do what I want with my headlights, mind your own business". Really guys, I wouldn't be posting this if I hadn't just experienced what I consider to be a dangerous situation.
