This may be a good topic for those that are new to riding...so all positive input is welcome.
I have noticed that there have been quite a few posts/threads about accidents and crashes regarding sportbikes ( and also cruisers, but for some reason we don't hear about them very much..(hint..hint).
I have been riding for a long time and still to this date i am petrified. (sorry wrong word..." scared " )
I guess the term scared to me is ...fear.
My belief is that my fear makes me a better rider and allows me to have some common sense when i ride.. making me slow down, making me look around more attentively and making me aware of my suroundings a bit more carefully and creating a future that may happen but i have control of it in a way.
When i ride i consider the worst case scenario at all times, expecting that a car will be pulling out of a parking lot without looking... a car will be changing lanes without signaling... a deer will be running accross the highway in front of me... another rider in front of me will lowside and his bike will block my way.
It may seem dumb and morbid to think of all that but those are the things ( and more) that create accidents and make you a victim and they DO happen.
If you ride and don't feel any of these things or see them and forget that you are on two wheels and not protected from the outside elements, then you need to reconsider your position as a rider.
We are vunerable out there, and we are like people trying to cross a busy Highway blindfolded, and we need to remind ourselves that we have NO protection but our brains to keep us safe.
think while you get the urge to go faster...think while you get the urge to take that corner fast...think before you need to take a ride without gear , think before you get on your bike...It is a privilege to ride and its fun...it is a toy, but it will bite you hard if you don't respect it!
My 2 cents
