During my regularly early morning walk/jog this morning, I started thinking about all the multi-unit buildings in my neighbourhood, Kitsilano. Many of them are suites in houses or multiplexs (not apartment buildings).
I was thinking about what would be involved to purchase and run one of those smaller multi-unit buildings. It's one way to build equity and own our own home. I figure a small multiplex with 6 suites would (could?) be small enough to handle, yet provide sufficient income to cover the mortgage and expenses.
Is anyone doing anything similar? I bet there a few of you that have the "mortgate helper" basement suite in your house, but I'm talking about taking the idea a bit farther and having more than one rental suite in the building.
Hard work? Time consuming? Is it a job in itself (ie. I wouldn't be able to keep my current job AND be a landord?) Where's a good place to get more info?
