K... Ive griped about this before, and gotten some very good advice.. which I've followed to the best of my ability (thanks to crotch&teetee) but im wondering now if possibly ive got a problem in addition to, or other then, with the carbs..
Heres whats happenin:
My bike has pms.. One week it runs pretty strong, could be doing better, sputters here and there if i crack the throttle all the way open which would probably be fixed by gettin the carbs rebuilt (from what ive gathered) but in general it rides good and the bikes fun.. however, the next week it runs like pure crap, it has a hard time idling at 2500+rpm without stalling, has NO balls whatsoever and has a HELL of a time getting up to 80-100km/h.. and if crack the throttle more then a quarter it starts sputtering like mad and will stall if I dont lay off.. What I did previously was pull the carbs right off, and pulled off the float bowls, at the time (bout a month-month and a half ago) the floats were all fine, and one of the jets seemed pretty gummed up.. sprayed the shit out of it with carb cleaner and compressed air to clean as best as i could.. woulda stripped em down a lil more (pretty much just pulled off the bowls) but I didnt wanna completley fubar it do to lack of mechanical knowledge.. when I did all that, it didnt seem to make a strong difference..
Latley its been gettin a lil worse, when the bikes having one of its pms days its hard to ride (cause it feels like it wants to die.).. earlier this week I bought this carb medic spray crap, pulled off the filters and sprayed it crazy while it was runnin.. on the two outter carb bodies it would idle and handle the spray, on the two inner bodies id have to crack the shit out of the throttle (which it doesnt have much of a problem with in neutral) so it wouldnt stall (cause as soon as i started sprayin it in there it wanted to die..) now, when I did this, I rode the bike 15 minutes later and she ran awesome for about 10 minutes, then started shittin out again... Did the spray thing again the next day and same thing, 10-15 minutes of good running/riding and then crap.. I also soaked the air filters over nite in hot soapy water and dried them off in case that was a problem, which didnt seem to make a difference.. then a couple of days ago i was ridin and she was runnin good, and then started goin into crap mode while i was ridin.. I started fidgeting with the petcock (to make sure i didnt have it half turned off or anythign stupid) and all of a sudden I had my "oomph" back.. thats the first time that adjusting that has solved the problem, but it made me start thinkin maybe theres something wrong with the petcock or even the gas tank...
So, in short, is this a common scenario for a carb problem? this kind of "tempermentalness" or am I not out to lunch and perhaps something else is wrong with it?
