I've had quite a few comments on the passing of my old avatar of the little model airplane sitting on the tank of my 9R. Since a few of you got a kick out of it I thought I'd mention that about a week and a 1/2 ago while flying the model out at a field near Mission it got carried away by a passing uprising thermal and is now officially AWOL.
It only had a 15 inch wingspan and I lost sight of it at about 600 or 700 feet of altitude as it climbed away circling and gaining height with each passing second. At the time I lost sight of it about 5 minutes had passed since launch. It was a fine little trooper that always flew well with a typical flying time of about 45 seconds. It had about 50 or 60 flights to it's credit over the 4 or so years since it was built.
It's always a bittersweet experience to see one of my smaller models of this sort fly well enough to escape me. On the one hand I hate to loose the work I put into it and on the other it's a happy moment to see it fly so well.
