First off, to get this out of the way -- I'm new here, so go ahead and flip me off/do whatever you want. I've been lurking for a week or two, so I know to expect that as customary .
Secondly, my question, which I likely already know the common answer to (just get one, you're your own person) , but will ask anyway: What are the best ways to convince parents to let me have a bike? I know background info is needed here, but I don't want to bore anyone with unecessary details. Basically, I'm 20, a student, living in a suite of a house my parents own in Vancouver. I'm NOT a squid, nor do I have any interest in being one...hell, I don't even speed in a car so I'm gonna be pretty damn cautious on a bike. My dad is fairly supportive but I don't think my mom would be. She sees them as something I'd die on, yet is fully supportive of me having a moped/scooter.
However, I think a bike would be a lot safer as it actually has enough power to get out of its' own way, they're more visible (as they tend to be in traffic), and you don't look like an absolute dork on one (no offense scooter people, but I'm ~6' 170lbs and look, well, wrong on a scooter).
I plan on going about this as "right" a way as I can (while being aware no such thing really exists). Basically, I'm looking to take the Action course in the spring, and get a 600cc bike to begin with (right now I'm leaning towards a Suzuki -preferably Gixxer 600). I've got gear picked out, because as far as I can tell it really comes down to personal preference. I should point out now that you should all feel free to point out where I'm wrong/have the wrong idea.
So, basically, back to my question. I think I stand a better chance of being succesful about this if I demonstrate to my parents I know what I'm talking about, and am going about this in a prepared way, which is where you all come in (at least, those who aren't asleep by now!). I realize I haven't laid everythign out for you guys (and girls) so if there is something you need to know that would help out, just ask for clarification.
