Have not been posting since I got to Taiwan for vacation.
Been here for almost 2 weeks now, and got some interesting things to share. I will try to post some pictures of what I see here. I am at a local internet cafe.
Here is one of the story:
So, recently I rented a brand new 100cc scooter, and it only costs $300 NT (about $11.50 CAD) per day, and started riding. At frist I was scared to ride the bike because there is almost no rules (other then strict speed limit). But I got the hang of it after couple hours of riding.
My friends were yalling at me NOT to stop for peds because it posts road hazard for myself (becuase other vechacles will NOT stop for me). Instead, you should continue your way. It totally contridict what I've learn in BC. Like the video clips on the "asian traffic" you saw on the "Video" section, it is much like that.
It is much caos on traffics; but there is this weird sense of order within it. It is hard to explain, seems like everybody is riding accroding to their liking, but somehow there is certin rules that everyone follows: Whoever is there frist had the right of way, or whoever had the GUTS had the right of the way. It is much like what we call "commen sense". You had to be here to understand it.
Seems like the traffic light is for cagers (cars) only. Motorcyclists is somehow not in the loop. hahhahahha... I mean people ride on side walks, cross walks, and in oppsite directions...etc, somehow for me it is very fun doing that.
Oh man... I dunno how much red light I had ran over. Because every one is doing it. Moreover, there are people not even using the helmet... most helmet here people uses are almost identical to "beanies". Although the local authorities are very hard on not using helmet, but some people still don't use them.
One of my pessanger, got really tired using helmet (for short distance travel) after riding with me this couple days. She also screams when I ride "orderly" because to her that put our lives in danger; however, is somewhat true because others will not stop for some peds who is crossing or jay walking, and I could be the one who got ran over.
So, tonight, on our way to the Internet cafe, we did not ride with helmet. It is stored in the storage cabinet in the bike. And I kept telling myself how many rules i had broked since I start riding here. Not to mention been compelet squid.
So... you guys must think that this is CRAZY... but this is how people ride here.
Well, after I got a chance to take some pictures, I will post them up for ya guys.
Did I mention it only costs $10 NT ($0.40 CAD) per hour for Internet Cafe? and you had access to all the cool games like we have in Vancouver.
Until next time...
