    Racing & Insurance

    Hi gang!

I am unsure if this is the correct location to post this, but since it refers to racing I thought that some of you had already dealt with these issues, ergo the placement.

I am getting a couple of race bikes and have concerns regarding:

    1) theft while in storage at home in the garage as Bre (Brandon) has recently had his ripped off right from his garage,

    2) public liability while in transit (say a bike comes flying off and hits on oncoming vehicle),

    3) damage to the bike itself while in transit.

I fully understand that it is impossible to insure the bike(s) for the actual racing itself but there is going to be a substantial amount of money on the line here as well as a considerable amount of exposure to public liability.

Has anybody already gone through these ropes?

    Cheers! JK

As for theft insurance (I too had mine ripped off)
you need a the VIN off the frame (BC VIN will do) and you can put storage on it. Even if it has a rebulid only or salvage title, you can still put storage on it.

The other stuff I'm not sure of...

    2) I'm sure your basic liability should cover that. It should be the same as carrying a canoe on your roof and having it slide off into oncoming traffic, which I can't imagine not being covered. IANAIA though

I am in the process of getting a quote for basic theft attached to my home insurance. When I hear back, I will let you know.

It's not covered by normal house insurance because it is a motorized vehicle, once you add aditional coverage (and cost) then you will be covered.

How about a bike with a "dismantle only" label. Can you put storage in surance on that with a VIN?
