Here's the scoop. I have never proffesionally raced before, and the past month I have just started to ride racebikes on tracks. I have done really well so far and am seriously considering travelling China's amatuer 125cc race circuit in spring. However I was approached a few days by one of the big boys out here. He owns a garage and has a wall with a bunch of trophies and medals. Word has gotten around locally about me and he offered me a bike, gear, coaching/training and entry into a race coming to my city on Dec 11. The catch.. its on 125cc dirtbikes on an oval track! I definitely appreciate the fact that I have gotten full sponsorship off the bat, but I am worried that dirtbike riding may mess up my road racing skills... I don't know much about professional racers, but do they generally cross well into both arenas? Thats probably my biggest worry. What would you do in my shoes? I don't care about making money or anything like that, I just want to have fun and let my competitive nature roam freely, but I would much rather do it in a road race. My next concern is if I suck on the dirt track, it may mess up the sponsorship opportunities I have for the spring road races (which is where I would really need sponsorship because of travelling costs on top of regular costs). On the flip side if I do good, it would help open the doors wider.. What would you do? Is it easy to hop from street to dirt and back??
