So I just did an oil and filter change for my ZX7-R and well now the bike ain't starting. I've done oil changes before but this is my first filter change. And the filter I got from Carter Honda where they assured me the Honda part would work just fine on my Kawasaki bike. So this is where I think things MIGHT have gone wrong.
Anyway, the bike started up just fine after fitting the new filter and filling the engine with the new oil and it ran for a couple minutes. It started smoking a bit but I figured this was the oil burning that had spilled onto the exhaust pipes of the cylinders when I changed the filter. So I stopped it the bike anyway. And then I re-checked the oil levels and topped it up a bit and started it up again. Same thing, a bit of smoke which I was pretty sure was coming off the exhast pipes but then it just sputtered and died on me. And now it won't start at all.
My thoughts are:
1) Could it be the filter? It fits perfectly and was the same size just a bit longer than my old one. So probably not right?
2) Could it be oil filter is too tight/too loose? I didn't have a torque wrench but winged it remembering the tightness of the old one.
3) It might be gas. My tank was close to reserve levels so after it died I switched it to reserve tank but still no joy. The starter just gives 'er but nothin else.
If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them. I'm gonna go grab some gas right now just in case that's all the problem is. Thanks guys,
