    Don't buy a Compaq!
And don't computer stuff at Staples!

London Drugs is my Fav place to shop for Computer stuff.
And things are usually cheaper there and they price match.

I love my Sony Laptop..hey it's a year old now!

Uh whats wrong with compaq? You probably think sony hasnt ever made a shit model notebook to dont ya? Id be looking for either a Dell or a Toshiba some of the ones less than 3 years old might still be under warranty and may still be able to be extended. You can spend 600 on notebook and then be spending another 600 repairing it if something goes bad.

Actually I speak from Experience when it comes to owning a Compaq.
And I can give you a big list of reason why not to buy a Compaq,
especially a used one. I bought mine new and I had nothing but
problems from day one. And If I didn't buy an extended warranty with
the Compaq when I bought it, it would have been toast after 10 months
of minimal use. The screen died on me three times in the three years
that I owned it. And you have to send it to Toronto to have it fixed,
which means you don't get it back for a month. And the service
    department is run by no-brainers.
"you mean you are looking to get back the computer you sent us to have fixed?"
And the touchpads are very fussy as well.

    Comaq=big headache.

If you do buy a Laptop, look into a cheap new one. The lower end
new models are way better than any used beat up model.
And get an extended Warranty. Screens cost alot to replace, if you
    don't have a warranty.

You can also save money by buying the floor model.

I didn't say sony models don't have problems, I just said,
I love the model I bought. And I haven't had any problems with
it in the year that I've owned it. It's a very reliable laptop and pretty too!

Thats kinda like saying that the CCT on my VFR went bad so HONDA = BAD , Stay away from them!! You are generalizing your One Experience on a whole product line. HEY Everyone Hondas are bad dont buy one I happen to have experience.

..my two cents: I've never had a bad experience with an IBM notebook. They're not the best looking or most feature-rich machines on the market, but they are solid performers and they do what they're designed to do very well.

    Okay then, how's this:

    Don't buy a used Compaq Presario 1245.

Your statement comparing Computer lines to Motorcycle Companies,
is the whole apples and oranges debate.

This thread was asking people for info on Cheap Laptops.
How about we go back to answering that question?
