I'm helping a friend put together his home theatre. His receiver is an entry level high current model - delivering 7.1, (Yamaha RXV650). He's going to need a whack of cables/plugs. Two Component video cables (or s-video), a subwoofer cable, a coax (or optical) cable, 28 banana plugs and a ton of wire.
He's grinded A&B to the bone on the components so they're not going to give him a break on the cables. I can't remember the numbers, but I think the cost of all the cabling is as much as the receiver. IMO, it's overkill for the calibre of system he's buying and I'd like to source out the accessories elsewhere.
Does anybody have any recommendations first of all on the choices between:
component vs. s-video
coax vs. optical
and then who in town has good prices on mediocre cabling. We won't be buying the $5 Cdn Tire cables, but I figure there must be a middle ground somewhere.
