My 00 GSXR 600 is due for a valve adjustment so I've been studying my service manual and reading various forums to get ready. Never done it before but it looks like a lot of fun So here are my questions:
1. In order to check the clearance I've got to get the cams positioned properly and the manual says to rotate the crank in the normal running direction. That would be turn the crank clockwise facing the engine on the right side (ie facing the cam chain) correct?
From what I've read, these valvetrains are well known to stay in spec for a while after 24,000km so hopefully I won't need to pull the cams but...
2. They talk about setting the proper spring tension on the CCT before removing it and then resetting the tension when it's reinstalled. I've got a manual CCT so I can just go ahead and pull it out correct? When reinstalling I just have to make sure the cam chain is properly set and aligned or should I readjust it?
3. They say to tighten the camshaft journal holder bolts 'in the ascending order of the numbers'. Are there numbers on the bolts themselves or are they referring to the diagram at the bottom of the page (see picture). If they are talking about the diagram, what's with the 1&5 and 2&6 bolts? Do I tigthen them, go do 3&4 and then come back to them and tighten some more?
4. They want Suzuki moly on the journals and Suzuki bond on the head cover gasket. I'm sure that stuff costs a billion dollars from the dealer. Is it safe to just use the same silicon adhesive I'd use on my car's valve cover gasket? What do you recommed for the moly paste?
That's all for now!
