Basically, he saved a potential crash, then saw he was heading for a wall (not enough run-off area) and decided bailing was better than slamming into the wall. Apparently he chipped a bone in his ankle in as a result of bailing. Also according to this article there were not too many useable parts salvaged from his bike (which crashed into and flipped over said wall).
