I was reading a recent issue of Cycle World (I think) and one of the columnists wrote about a single mom who was killed when her bike was hit by a car. In the article he touched on the issue that some people question why a single mom would ride a motorcycle, increasing the risk of potentially leaving her child without a parent. The columnist also talked about her love of riding and that's why she rode.
As a parent this issue resonated with me because one of my worst fears is not seeing my kids grow up. (They're 2 1/2 and 7 months.) If something was to happen to me while I was riding my bike I know (or assume) my wife would be around to raise our kids. However, if I was a single parent I might rethink riding (at least on the street).
I'm curious to hear other people's thoughts on this issue -- i.e., if you were a single parent would you stop or reconsider riding a motorcycle?
