I just cut and pasted this from an e-mail I received...
We have been advised that Vedder Mountain is to be closed down and logged by Weyerhauser/Northwest Hardwoods, in addition to the proposed Martens asphalt plant. A group called the Stop Industrial Development and Logging on Vedder Mountain Coalition has been formed. The Coalition is holding a rally at Vedder Mountain on Saturday, February 19 at 3PM. The location is at the corner of Parmeter Road and Cultus Lake Road (Cultus Lake Rd is the main access road to Cultus lake, Parmeter Rd is just before the lake on the right hand side)
If you don't want to lose Vedder Mountain as an off-road riding area, then you need to be at the rally and preferably with a full car load of people. We don't often get notice of something like this. It is usually just gone. Closed. Finished. Remember Strawberry Island, or Cattermole? There are quite a few others. The media will be there, so if the turnout is low then you can kiss Vedder goodbye. There will also be petition papers in some of the bike shops. This protest has to succeed by March 1st or it is too late, as that is the permit date for the logging.
