    Question about Racing and Oil

Just a quick question as to what oil is the best to use in the race bike?

I did a quick search and found one post saying semi-synthetic..

I'm no expert, but it would seem to me that at the local club-racing level frequency of oil changes would be more important that quality of oil. IOW buy quality oil and change it often, but don't bother with the most expesive stuff out there...?

I figured that would be the way to go, just wondering what else is out there.

Oh come on. Do a little research on oil. There is one hellava difference between cheapo dino oils and synthetic oils. If you want maximum protection and performance you most definately want synthetic. I will gladly email anyone a list of oils and their specifications - synthetics always come out on top. There are a few high quality dino and semi synthetic oils on the market as well.

I used Castrol gtx since the mid seventies in my bikes and cars. Castrol oils are not that good. I changed often thank goodness.

I use synthetic now and will continue to.

Just put it in, run it for a bit, and drain it out.
You're good to go for the season and none of that nasty viscosity slowing the engine parts down.

Saves weight too! But not really enough to make a difference.

Download this chart showing oil specs. The oils at the top of the chart are best.
