I was turning onto 41st today off West Boulevard ... heading for a morning coffeee at Cafe Artigiano in Kerrisdale (best coffee in town btw). A Volvo cruises up Westbound on 41st in the right lane about to turn right onto W. Boulevard. His signal is on ... he starts to slow down ... and then ... goes straight through and hits the accelerator much to my surprise.
Did he change his mind? Leave his signal on? Try to trick me? Who knows...
Luckily I have learned to wait until a car actually starts to turn before I hit the gas. I easily stopped in time ... but the lesson here is clear.
1.) Signals do not indicate what a driver is going to do
2.) Impatience can get you a heap of trouble
3.) Volvo drivers are the worst ;-)
Just a reminder to wait until a car actually initiates a turn before you trust that they are going to turn even when their blinkers are telling you they are going to turn. Also watch where they are looking. In this case the guy kept looking forward which tipped me off.
Keep in mind ... if I would have turned in front of him and he hit me ... I would likely have been found at fault to sprinkle a little icing on the crushed leg cake.
That is my experience of the day ...
