Learner's License Poll
The B.C. Coalition of Motorcyclists would like your input on an issue concerning learner's licenses. Please read the diagram carefully and look at the difference between the process that an automobile driver goes through, the amount of time one has to complete the process, as opposed to what a motorcyclists process is. If you have any questions please call the office at (604) 580-0111 or toll free 1-877-580-0111.
on the front page titled "Learner's Licenses, do you think this is fair"
Thanks for your input!
The link to the poll does not work for me.
I've read this over before and I'm not sure where BCCOM is going with this.
The path and time frame to get a bike licence is different than to get a car licence but I'm not sure if it's worth changing.
Getting a car licence is far too easy and the ammount of bad drivers on the road are proof of that. Making it easier to get a bike licence may get more people riding but it might also let more bad riders get into more accidents, giving all of us a bad name. It may turn out to be a pandora's box of problems.
The only two things I dislike about the learner's process for motorcycles is that the minimum period until your class 8 license (one year) is excessive, and it's stupid that you can't ride at night.
Riding at night in the city is SAFER. There's plenty of lighting, and there's hardly anybody else on the road.
I approve of the passenger restriction, though. Also, my understanding is that the MST is not mandatory... It's not really a novice license you end up with at that point. It's still a learner's license, they just allow you to have the supervisory requirement removed because of the inconvenience in getting a supervisor with a class 6 to follow you.

Poll doesn't work (firefox), and I agree with the sentiments further up.
