A noob question for a noob forum.
Lately, I've been noticing that I've had to adjust my chain quite a bit... enough for it to worry me that perhaps my chain is reaching the end of it's life.
Since I'm a noob, perhaps someone could shed some light on this area of motorcycling.
How long does a chain typically last? I'm just over 20,000k's on this chain.
I've tried to keep my chain 'waxed' up with this chain wax stuff... however, I have to admit that I'd forgotten to do it for a couple weeks during the winter months :O as my bike sat... Other than that, It was done every 6000kms (regular servicing), and quite often between those times by me...
Now, after I started riding it again a couple months ago, I've noticed that the chain was REALLY loose, so loose that it was actually resting on my center stand, when I was parked!!! :O no good! So I adjusted it till it was more normal, which was almost a full notch!
Then about 500kms later, I look again, and it's loose again! :S this time not as bad, just about 1/3 of a notch adjustment.
anyways, this week about another 500km's later, I'm adjusting it again, because it's loose again! This time I adjust it another 1/3rd of a notch... (I've noticed that due to all this loose chain business my little rubber/plastic guard under the upper loop of the chain has couple distinct rails etched into them now.. from the chain slapping against it :S)
So is my chain dying? I've been even more vigorous in the last 1000km's in my lubing... but I'm worried that on my way to work my chains gonna break and I'll be late
oh one thing to note, the tire is keeping it's previous adjustments just fine, so I don't think it's a case of it slowely unadjusting it's self.
