Motorcycle thief caught
Help the police in locating the owner of a stolen motorcycle.
At 4:25pm today, two motorcycle thieves were seen breaking the front wheel lock off of a silver late model sportbike parked in the 1400 Block of W. 6th Ave in Vancouver. One suspect left on the motorcycle but not before almost running down two pedestrians. The other thief then collected the tools and drove off behind the motorcycle in a station wagon. The witness called in on a cellphone and provided the police with a description of a blue station wagon with a licence plate.
15 minutes later, the motorcycle and station wagon are spotted by police southbound on Heather St cutting across W. 16th Ave some 22 blocks from the crime scene. Upon spotting the police, the motorcyclist launched the bike and almost wiped out as it zipped through the side streets. Police followed waiting to see if the rider will make a mistake and wipe out. No such luck. Meanwhile the suspect in the station wagon thought he had made a clean getaway. No such luck. The same police officer looped back around and found the station wagon at Cambie and W 19th Ave and the suspect was arrested at gunpoint. Actually at many gunpoints...No car crashes, no injuries. Suspect was last seeing sobbing as he was led to the wagon and then off to jail. Lots of entertainment for the dozens of shoppers and coffee drinkers at that location.
The 16 year old male, who was "visiting" from another municipality was driving mommy's station wagon and doing crime. Inside his vehicle were two bags full of break in instruments. Surprisingly, this male had no criminal record. Not until now. Thanks to these officers, he is now facing charges.
The police do need your help in that no one has reported their motorcycle stolen yet. Chances are the owner is not aware it's been taken. Police did not get the licence plate of the motorcycle. Bike was just too quick.
The bike is a late model silver sportbike. Sounded like an inline 4 cylinder bike. No markings that were visible on the tank.
If you know of anyone that parked in the 1400 Block of W 16th today, please check with them to see if it's their bike. Have them phone the Vancouver Police at 911 and quote that location. The 911 operator will link their stolen auto file to this suspect that has been arrested.
