I'd like to make a request of the racers on this site or others are familiar with the prices for track bikes.
I have been bitten bad by the motorcycle racing bug (e.g., I just spent three days working a corner at the races at Mission because I am such an addict). I am looking to purchase my first track bike. I'd love to get an R6 or something, but I'm guessing that they are more money than I want to spend at this point. So, I am looking at buying a F2 or F3 to start as they seem to be a good beginner bike that would better fit my budget. (Plus, there are tons of them around so parts should not be a huge problem.) What I want to know is what should I be looking to pay for a half decent F2 or F3 track bike? I've seen a couple of F2s for sale recently that have been prepared as track bikes (e.g., converted to F3 front forks, braided steel brake lines, upgraded brakes, race bodywork, better sprockets and chains, saftety wiring, frame sliders, etc.) in the $4,000 - $4,800 range. Does this sound like a fair price? (I realize that it's hard to put a price on a bike without actually seeing it. Let's just assume that they're in okay condition -- e.g., have been down the odd time, but nothing major.) I'm not looking to steal them or anything, I just want to make sure I'm paying a reasonable dollar for what I'm getting.
Thanks for your help.
