BURNABY (CP) -- A recent rash of violent swarmings in Burnaby has taken a new twist with a series of attacks by pre-teens.
Burnaby RCMP are investigating three incidents Tuesday night involving young boys preying on women.
In the first incident, a jogger was chased by a pack of eight youths and threatened by a boy with a knife.
The woman tried to flee, but fell after being tripped by one of the boys, police said. Her screams scared them away. The knife-wielding boy was described by police as being about 10 years old.
A short time later, another woman was approached by two boys aged about 12, one holding a knife. The pair grabbed her backpack and fled, police said.
And a little over two hours after the first attack, another woman was followed by two boys who kicked her to the ground. Police said she screamed for help and the boys ran away.
Investigators believe the three attacks are related. In each case, the women were stopped and asked for the time.
