I have a ViewSonic GS790 19" CRT monitor that has suddenly stopped working. Well, actually only half of it has stopped working. The top half is now blank while the bottom half still displays the image
This came about gradually; the top half would suddenly "tune out". I would cycle the power and it would sometimes come back. Now it has gone for good. Now amount of power-button-pushing, not to mention slapping or bumping will bring it back.
Is this a common death for CRT monitors? Is my monitor toast? Any ideas if this is fixable? Are these things meant to be disposable? It's only (only?) about 5 years old, though it *has* spent most of its life turned on (with screensaver or power-save engaged).
This would be a nice excuse to buy a slim LCD monitor, but I don't have the money.
