I recently plucked up the courage and parted with some $$$ and got myself a 2-piece Aerostich Roadcrafter
textile suit (link). There are a number of people on this site who own such gear and highly recommend it.
I would like to join this motley crew! My experience to date with the company (they only sell direct -
online/telephone or go for a very long ride) has been excellent. From sizing recommendation, ordering,...
to post-delivery queries and followup. In my case the sizing was not in stock, even then it took no more
than 2 weeks to produce the pants and the jacket, and within 3 weeks I had my gear.
My first impression of the gear was of complete satisfaction. The quality of the finish and features,
including stiching, number of pockets, etc was excellent. The fit was also spot on (something I was
anxious about). The standard armour also feels very substantial. When I ordered the suit I requested the
optional hip armour/padding. However, the suit does need to break in - so the first few rides it was a bit
stiff. However, after a couple of weeks of use it has become quite comfortable and I believe it still has
some more softening to do. The recent rainy weather has also allowed me to experience the 'waterproof'ness
of the gear. It is bloody amazing! In a 25 minute commute on a a highway with a pretty heavy downpour,
the suit kept me 100% dry.
Basically I am very happy with the gear - this allows me to feel not too bad about the money spent. In this
case the saying 'you get what you pay for' is very true. I am also happy with the Aerostich customer
service. An example... On the right sleeve of the jacket there is a small zippered pouch - very handy for
keys, change, security card, etc. Anyhow the zipper tab is metallic, so leaned into a left hander, it is
possible to scratch the tank as your right arm is drapped over it. So I sent of a short e-mail to the
customer service person to suggest that perhaps they could replace it in the future with a plastic tab.
Got a quick response saying 'I am sending you some tank protection for your zipper issue, let me know how
it works out...'. Thank you Aerostich!!!!
Oh, did I say that I really like this gear ;-)
