I received this from a friend of mine in California who has sucessfully ridden in an Iron Butt Rally, ridden over 800,000 documented miles on BMW motorcycles and last year from April 15 - October 15 rode a documented 54,000 + miles.
He passed on a very interesting lesson from the BMW Car Club of America Instructor's list. Apparently, they work a lot with their students on vision techniques.
Attached is a wonderful/scary demonstration of target fixation.
It originated from a pilot friend of one of the instructors and REALLY illustrates what happens to human vision when we get object-fixation, i.e. stare at a spot and don't use the "wide-screen vision. "
I thought you'd all find this interesting... Don't forget to play with the options for different colors, etc.
The objective of the link is (obviously) to try to teach students to use wide screen vision.
