Tick, Tick, BOOM
I've got a (relatively) quite tick, tick, tick, that is comming from my motor and speeds up with an increase in rpms.
A friend of mine with more mechanical knowledge sugggested it is probably "chain slap" due to an old tensioner (it wasn't making the ticking sound when I rode to his place tonight...but started on the way home!). The bike has 15000km on it and has never had any work/service done to the engine (execpt oil changes).
I've been reading up on cam chain tensioners for F4i etc, and I am wondering if anyone has any idea about the cost for one for a Bandit.
Would the instal time be about the same as an F4i?
rain? whats that!
What does the book say about valve adjustment intervals?
Have you visited any Bandit forums / sites to see if there are any tech bulletins out for your bike?
You might be noticing something common to a lot of bandits,
how long have you owned the bike?
this is my...boomstick!
IT's air-cooled so, expect variable noises and lots of them from the engine but, it's due for a valve adjust definetely. Usually, engines quiet as they lose valve adjust, as the whole system tends to tighten rather than loosen. At 15 K on a bike with that engine I would find tensioner issues very unlikely, though not impossible. that is something that can be checked at valve adjustment time.
Other things can cause ticking too, like small exhaust leaks, for example.
Could be in need of a valve adjustment.

Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs. TwinBrosRacing
