    vacuum line and intake boot

the carbs on my bike has 1 vacuum line coming from the fuel petcock. if there was a miniscule hole in this line, what would be the effects on rideability? as well, if there was a small hole in 1 of my intake boots, what are the effects?

It wouldn't be working properly - you'd be running weak on that cylinder as it'd be drawing more air in. Too weak and you can wreck your piston and valves. Probably get a little hotter and a misfire too.

Yep, even a small hole or split at the ends that will leak any air at all will make a difference. Mostly at idle when the volume going through the carbs is so low and any sort of leak creates a larger % of difference. On older and heat hardened joiner boots the possibility of surface cracks or splits is much higher.
A backyard mechanic without a service manual is just like a hooker without a lamp pole.... they are both in the dark.
