Well i was just riding to Pemberton this afternoon after work and it happened at the top of suicide hill. i was passing the slower traffic which was on the right. it happened where it turns back into single lane and turns left. anyway the last car changed lanes so i could pass. i probably shoulda just stayed where i was but i passed him and came towards that corner too hot. anyway i stood it up and slowed down quick but then obstacle fixated on the barrier on the side of the road then started skidding on the dust on the side of the road left from where they had swept the road with that big vacuuming truck. so i let off the front but was standing on the rear brake without noticing. anyway it felt like the tires were flat or something. then i bumped into the concrete barrier with just my rear tire and the bike stalled out and i just sat there thinkin WTF just happened and all the cars i just passed drove by. i kinda felt like an idiot. when i got goin again i noticed one of the dudes had pulled over at the lookout i think to make sure i was a'ight. anyway what did i learn from this. well i've been riding this bike for about three weeks now. put 1700kms on it. was just startin to get pretty confident. took bcsc last month, been reading tips here, but still did everything wrong when it came down to it. someone posted on here that you can do fine when everything is goin good but when things go wrong that's where the experience kicks in. i agree. i entirely put myself into this situation and it would not even have come close to happening if i was doing the speed limit. so i am gonna tone it down. there is nothing but a long drop on the other side of that barrier. anyway just thought i'd share with the other newbs on this board. have fun out there. ride safe.
