I’ve just been south of the border for a week and decided to spend some money while our dollar is healthy. Cruised around the usual electronics outlets to check out camera and memory media prices.
Comp USA, Office Depot, Circuit City and Best Buy. I finally bought a Digital Camera at Best Buy for what I thought was a good price, and only 6% tax (Detroit).
Nipped into Best Buy here in a couple of days ago to check out the Canadian prices on the same stuff I’d seen in the US.
All taxes in, I saved $150 CDN (40%) on the same camera buying in the states compared to buying locally from the same chain!!
Everything that I had checked out in Best Buy US was approximately 25% more expensive here – then there are our purchase taxes.
Cynical gouging (“…what the market will stand” in retail speak)
