Heard that sound again tonight that we don't ever wanna hear. Scraping metal and plastic that only a bike makes when it goes down. In the pouring rain a young rider was coming down a street in d/t vancouver when an suv pulled out of a parking lot in front of him. the suv stopped and the rider dumped. By the grace of God he only scraped his faring and bent his mirror and pegs. NOt even a scrape on himself. My heart stopped when it first happened as I was walking nearby. I ran to help him and he simply got up and picked up his bike after yelling at the suv driver. helped him with his bike to a parking lot since it wouldn't start. told him to give it a few minutes before doing anything. turns out the young guy was breakin a few rules. only a learners with no supervisor and after dark. he let the suv driver go with a nod and just so happened the cops were nearby and wrote him up. of course he couldn't ride it home so I helped him push it home, about 6 blocks. he has no one legal to ride with him so I offered to hook up next week and spend some time with him on the bikes. this guy was so lucky. coupled with the ridiculous number of horrendous drivers, the undisciplined and untrained are a recipe for a bad year of stats. I hope that maybe I can help this rider with some of my time and experience. I'm so glad this is not an RIP thread.
