Holy shit thats scary. could be just i lemon out of a million. Hopefully any way.
Uh no. You smack a wall at 150 and we'll see how any lightweight frame holds up...
The rider originally said on gixxer.com's 1000 forum that the front got away from him and the bike hit the wall afterwards.
Once it hit the yahama and kawi boards it turned in to a "defect" with misquoted information from Dan.
I've welded a lot of aluminum and those welds look fine.
"From the R6MESSAGENET.COM:
"I was there at PPIR the day this happened, and I was pitted about 50ft from the turn where it happened. Turn 1 is an incredibly fast transition from the banked section to the flat first turn. Dan Salis (sp?) lost the front in the transition to the flat part at over 100mph. The bike was fine until it hit the wall. The break in the frame spars is FROM THE IMPACT. The tank/subframe also seperated from the bike, and the inner/lower fork tubes also pulled completely out of thier upper tubes and the whole wheel assembly went in another direction.
Unless you plan on hitting a NASCAR wall at 100+ I think the 05 1k is perfectly fine."
As you can read, this was an actual eyewitness of this mishap, a member from a Yamaha r6 board confirms impact on a wall at high speeds"

You nailed her John.
When we going to see the new lightweight racing version of you?
He does own one, so maybe he's being sarcastic?Originally Posted by oscarthegrouch

Hey J, the lightweight version now fits back into my one piece leathers, so pretty much ready anytime. I've been doing a bit of riding this season, so getting my ass back in the saddle too, if all the welds on my gixxer survive!!!!
Gimme a shout and we can wear our safety vests together
Really? Are we looking at the same pictures? !!Originally Posted by cosworth

The porosity looks fine. The penetration is dead on. Structurally the failure can be seen to occur from top to bottom. Cup and cone failure is evident. There is a small amount of cup and cone showing the failure tension was started at the top.
Hahaha, you guys need to lighten up a little. Remember that hubris is the most important thing in life, especially you John.
