Forgive me if this has been discussed before on this forum. I'm a forum newb so kick me in the choda if I'm bringing up old sh*t...
It seems that there are two camps of sport bike riders out there - those who pass on the double yellow and those who don't. And put a bunch of riders together with opposing views on this and it makes for a not so fun ride for everyone.
I'm in the latter camp. Although I've seen the better part of 200kph many times on the street and feel that it's my God given right as a Canadian to slide my tire on a provincial highway, I think passing on the double yellow adds unneccessary danger to yourself and other drivers and also doesn't help the public image of motorcyclists (judging by the number of posts on this board by people who say they get called in to the cops by other motorists for doing so).
I've got some friends who I ride with who pass on double yellows with this hand signal system - the first guy raises his hand while he's passing to show that the oncoming lane is clear, then he lowers his hand if there's uncoming traffic or he drops his hand if he's about to be hit by a car.
Sure, I've passed on a double yellow going up Cypress Bowl when I can see 3km ahead of me and there's 1 car on the road but man, I just can't ride with guys who chronically pass on double yellows through a turn.
I'd like to hear thoughts from other riders on this board.
