I was heading off with my wife and dog to meet my daughter and hubby for 5 days of camping in the Marble canyon area. They were driving down from Grande Prarie one day prior. I knew I had some brake problems so I took my truck in to get fixed prior to the trip. This guy thought it was the brake calipers from what I told him and a test drive. But when he went to take the wheels off the special lug to remove the anti theft nut on each wheel was missing. So I had to take it to the Ford dealer and have them try and find the right one. They were great and had me out of there in no time but I had lost my time with my other mechanic.
Next day I ended taking it to Midas for the work. They said it was not the calipes but the rotors for sure 100%. So I said go ahead and change them $378.
Leave next morning from Departure Bay 8:35 am ferry. Yes the one that crashed into the marina! So 8 hours later just after 5:00 pm getting off ferry, I head north on 99 because #1 sounds bad on the radio. Good choice, 99 is smooth sailing until we get to Whistler, smell something funny then smoke is pouring off my front right wheel. It's 7:00pm at night before a long weekend, great!
By some stroke of luck I find an Auto pro store where the staff are having a late meeting. I tell them my tale of woe and they start to work on it for me. When he jack's it up the front right is seized and red hot. He works for an hour and half or so and get it to work but suggests getting new calipers when I get back. $60
It's now around 9 something pm, havn't been able to get a hold of my daughter, and I'am leary about going over the Duffy and breaking down in the dark. So we go to this campground in Whistler $32.50 only to find out you have to park aways from your camp spot and bring in your gear in a wheelbarrow. My wife and I are both really pissed off by now and not up to this(it's near dark) drive back to the office and rent one of there cabins $175 -$32.50 refund. We get in only to find out dogs are not allowed, so fuck it Spuddy be quite.
Next morning leave wife and go back to Auto pro at 8:00 am, ask if they can put on new calipers? They have to wait till 9:00am for parts store to open, say to call back at 9:20. So I go back to cabin have breakfast and call back at 9:20am. I'am in luck they have them and will try and fit me in this morning.
Anyways 2 new brake calipers, brake pads, power flush boiled brake fluid and machine down 2 day old rotor plus labour $604
It's 1:30 pm now and my wife has been waiting all morning, she had to check out at 11:30 am. Anyways we finally get on the road and meet up with my daughter at 5:00pm. She has been crying most of the day because she hasn't heard from us.
Well glad to say the rest of the vacation was really fun minus the drive home. We had lots of beer and good food and a great camp spot.
I have talked to the guy at Midas and he wants me to bring in my receipts and he said he will see what he can do. I don't think it will be much.
I'am glad I didn't chance it and drive that night and lucky that the parts store was open on a stat holiday let alone have the parts. It would have been Monday if they didn't have them and then I probably would have driven and chanced it. Anyways all's well that ends well I guess. Cheers
