Hey - Extremely new here. I just purchased a '00 Kawasaki ZX-6R a few weeks ago, and eagerly anticipating the start of August for the riding school (Yeah - I know, it's getting late into the summer, but whatever). Anyways, just a question...
What possesses people to ride without a jacket, and in just a t-shirt?
When I was on Lougheed today, near Chilko (after that unfortunately accident had happened), a saw a rider on a green Kawasaki Ninja, in matching green leathers. Probably hot as all hell. She was pretty damn cute too from the looks of it, and just because I plan on riding - I of course gave her plenty of room to cut infront of me to turn up Chilko as that is where everyone was being routed. Now - In _NO WAY_ am I flaming this rider at all, but she took off her leather jacket. Probably was boiling, and I really don't blame her at all. I imagine she was just hot from trying to negotiate the unbelievably heavy traffic, and that she was most likely planning to put it back on after a few blocks.
However - I saw several other riders today (all of which make me jealous... oh so jealous) wearing just a t-shirt and that just seems crazy to me. I know I'm not riding yet, but I do watch some stunt videos just to see what people can do and then I usually follow that up with a video of someone crashing just to remind myself of how serious it can get. I don't think I'd want to take that challenge, I'd sooner pull over somewhere to try and cool off, or go get a slurpee (damn do I love those things). So what is it? Just the heat? Riders getting too hot, just want to feel the rush of air against their skin? I just can't imagine riding without protection... seems like a risk I'm not willing to take (And this is coming from a guy who shattered his femur bone and spent a LONG time in a body cast).
Oh and if you are this cute rider that moved infront of a white GVRD pickup - Thanks for the wave.
