Well finally back on the bike this weekend after virtually no riding since April.
I had developed Acute Bilateral Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and lost basically the use of my hands for most daily activities especially riding.
I went for 6 weeks of physio, Steroid treatment, and cortisone shots into the wrists with no results.
Five weeks ago I had my left wrist surgically repaired and three weeks ago I had my right one operated on. I had an approixmate 30 -36 month realistic wait through the BC medical system so I paid and had them done privately.
This weekend was the test ride - if I did not think the wrists were going to function I would have been put in a position to give up my likley once in a lifetime spot int he Iron Butt Rally this August.
So Saturday Susan and I rode 2 up to the Hood Canal for a friends Wedding ( Rich of Rich's Custom Seats got married) - very nice motorycle themed wedding
Home at midnight, packed took off the seat attached the panniers, ( hydration system and food pack) . Bolted back on the seat, attached fuel cell and packed. Got to bed at 1:15 Up at 4:30 and out of the Garage at 5:07 am.
Route Vancouver, Hope, #5 to Kamloops, missed turn on to Trans Canada drove by mistake almost to Sunpeaks, turned around back into Kamloops farted around in that maze of shitty roads for about 40 minutes.
Filled up in Sicamous, ( only gas stop of the trip over - had lunch as well)
A Honda Sport bike follwed me for and hour or so. I think he figured oyt with all my farkels I was likely running counter measures.
Heavy traffic from Golden onwards, lots of laser ( 3 spots) in the park saw a bear and two herds of sheep. was running 12 km over no issues
Engine off in Calgary 11 hours 1 minute 26 seconds total time.
Monday Morning on the Road at 3:47 Alberta Time.
(5 degrees Celcius)
Rode with my host ( another IBA member on South on highway 22 though Crow's Nest Pass past Frank Slide
Saw lots of deer on the Road, especially around the residential areas in Spruce Meadows
Breakfast in Blairmore ( ugh) Gas in Nelson
Discovered I lost Visa Card, cancelled card, then found card, ( 50 minutes wasted) finally started to warm up
Then on alone to Nelson, Nakusp, Vernon
NOTE I WAS ALL ALONE NO TRAFFIC ALL THE WAY TO NAKUSP FROM 5 MILES INSIDE THE TURN OFF TO NAKUSP ( 12 noon ish) Thank you God
Caught ferry followed two sportbikes to within 10 miles of Vernon where they turned off were surprised that my Honda could keep up quite well in the twisty bits.
We saw quite a few deer ont he raod.
Here is a hint see a deer on road or roadside slow down and blow your horn.
They run away , though one on the road took a spontaneous dump, then ran when I blew my horn.
Arrived in Vernon, got gas, ate a missile of death, dropped by to see michael from BCSB.
He was just getting off work so he rode with me to the turn off before the toll booth, we dined in Meritt at the White Spot.
Nice ride chatted on CB's the whole way. Met the sport bike guys from the ferry on the side of the road. They followed us for a while
Nighfall just after the toll booth, beautiful sunset matched the great sunrise on the othe side of the rockies that morning
Stop and go construction near abbotsford 8 kms of stop and go. Home by 11 pm
Total trip 2484 kms. Great riding and wrists are not sore!!
Now to get some daily rides in before the "butt"
It is nice to be back in the saddle, so to speak.
