Pw 80 Help!!!
My son has an '86 PW80 and we can't get the thing to run with the carb intake connected to the airbox . When it is diconnected the bike runs fine- maybe a little rich. Anybody know why this is? Maybe the jet and needle should be replaced?
Sounds like too much trouble. You should just sell it to me real cheap.. LOL..

I bought a PW80 "Power up Kit" for my kids bike on ebay. Seemed to make a difference in power throughout the rev range. Came with jets, Moose air filter, some pieces for an air box modification, and boyesen reeds. Another modification my mechanic made was to remove the ring that's welded into the header pipe inside, right where it joins the cylinder. Just cut away the welds and it opens up the restricted section of the tiny exhaust. Now the little sucker goes like hell.
I decided to pull the carb off and have a look and checked the reeds. The reed block/plate was a homemade one cut out of a chunk of plate aluminum with two uneven sized holes cut in it. The reeds were also homemade and welded to the screws that hold them to the block. They don't even close all the way so I decided to start by replacing it with the correct part. This poor little thing has been through hell. Of the four screws that hold the intake/reed block to the cases three are different with two types of threads! I did see that kit you are refering to on ebay and thought about it. I am going to get the damn thing running first-hopefully . Thanks for the feedback.
Sweet! You didn't say it was an Orange County Custom PW80!
I bet it even has their own exacting and precise hammer blows from the broken claw hammer they tuned it up with.
