Probably wishful thinking...but perhaps this is the start of something good??
Smaller parking spaces for smarter cars come to Duncan
(mytelus.com) - City council in Duncan has given a thumbs up to smaller parking spaces for smart cars, mopeds and motorcycles. Twelve new micro-car parking spaces will be added around the city this week.
The idea is the result of a smart car driver’s challenge of a parking ticket. According to the Victoria Times Colonist, Dr. Ron Jarvis received a parking ticket after he parked his smart car at a right angle to the curb to save space.
He had seen this done in Europe as a way of taking up less space.
Trying the same thing in Duncan resulted in a $10 ticket. He challenged the ticket and that prompted councillors to consider alternatives in order to accommodate the growing number of smaller vehicles.
The city dismissed the ticket and this week is introducing the new micro-parking spaces.
They are designed for cars smaller than 2.7 metres and will be located in prime locations.
